I purchased a laptop computer from Gateway in November.By Dec. 2007 the DVD burner would not burn anything. It was running extremely hot and I actually burned my hand on it leaving a blister. I repeatedly called and complained about the amount of heat, about the DVD burner, and also my wi-fi card kept kicking me out of the internet. They told me they would send out a box to send it to them it. Charges paid by them. I did not hear from them for 3 weeks and I had to call and inquire myself. They told me that my computer was on hold and gave me a direct number to their repair dept. The person who answered the phone told me that they were shipping it back to me unrepaired because there was water damage to the motherboard and spilled over onto the DVD burner which they claimed that I did. I never had water near my computer. I told them that because of the extreme heat it was proabably condensation on the motherboard they were seeing because of the extreme heat. Or someone had their lunch on top of my computer while they had it open. Needless to say, it was a battle in which I lost. They returned my computer to me with my memory taped to the top of the computer and definitely unrepaired. They said they did not support 3rd party ram. They told me because I had opened the computer and added more memory to it that I had voided out the warranty. I told them that Best Buy did it because Best Buy is allowed to open up any of their products in their stores. Best Buy put the memory in for me. They voided my warranty and red taped my accout so that I can't even get any tech support. I cannot run a check disk on it, format a simple flash drive, or use my DVD burner because none work. They do not honor their warranties and I would never buy another computer from them. If they were to start selling pencils, if it has a Gateway logo on it, I won't buy it. I have lodged a formal complaint against them with the BBB and also am working on a letter to their corporate office. I don't know what's going to happen but I feel that they should be getting a huge class action suit very soon. I have seen hundreds of complaints on Gateway. They are a nightmare company and they should be put out of business. I was online and did a little investigation on them with their laptops and found out that as soon as I bought my laptop they stopped making the T1616 series. Why? Because it was just a pile of junk that someone decided to put together. When I told them what I knew about that computer they got really quiet on the other end of the phone. It is inevitable that one day they will be sued and if it involves the T1616 I will be getting in on it because I feel that they owe me big time.
