Collection of a fraudulent calim from 6 years prio

In 2005 I had an incident with a rental car (EZ Rent A Car) and my understanding at the time was that my insurance company would take care of the claim. Apparently not, they only paid a partial amount so the car rental company sent the balance to collection.in august I paid the amount billed as outsatnding $937.55. Matter concluded.

In June I received a collections letter from HK Craig demanding payment of $187.51 due to EZ Rent A Car. Stunned me. Called the company and they said the amount came up on audit and the rental car company "forgot" to charge an admin fee in the original transaction.

Whay crap you don't charge a customer additional amounts for a paid in full account especially SIX years later. The collection letter had no supporting detail and when I spoke to the company they were not able to be of much help.

They offered to settle the account (because of the circumstances) for $100.00 and then reminded me that they do report to the credit bureaus. I took this as blackmail. Here is a company sending a bill for a paid account from 2005 (or maybe 2006) caliming more monies due. No support... No courtesy phone call. Just send money or we will report you to the credit bureaus.

I faxed a copy of the 2006 bil and payment to Craig and am waiting to hear a reply.in the meantime I have created a complaint with both the Florida & Federal Trade commissions. Thes business practices suck.
