Ripoff kept my down payment after they released me with a car for a month

This company is a bunch of crooks. My pregnant wife and I went in for a nice used car that we saw, a 2001 Chevy Tahoe. We filled out all of the pertinent paperwork, etc, and they approved us. After about 5 hours at the dealership, we went home in our new Tahoe, everybody lived happily ever after. WRONG! The next day we got a phone call that we would have to bring in the truck because they couldn't get financing for us. My wife was very upset, because this was exactly what she had been wanting. The dealership told us that we would have to get in something cheaper, but come up with a bigger down payment. I called my father and told him what was going on, and he agreed to help me with the down payment. So we looked around, and after tempting us with several other SUV's, they finally said we would have to take a 2001 Dodge pickup. I should have taken my money and my car and left.

So we enjoyed this pickup for about a month, and got another phone call. They once again told us we would have to come in and bring the truck. They would try to get us into a nice sedan. I was fed up. I told them I wanted to get my money back. They said the manager was gone, and I would have to come back the next day to get my check. Upon returning the next day, they again tried to get me into another car. I told them no, and they stalled me again. They had sold my trade-in, and were trying to get it back. So when they finally got my trade-in back, they called me and told me to come in. They gave me half of my down payment back, along with my car in worse shape than it had been when I left. When I told them I was going to get my lawyer, they told me to leave or else they would call the cops.

So I left, with only half my down payment and my damaged car. I have never taken any legal action against them, though I lost over $800 to them, along with some sanity, an upset wife, and over 36 hours of my life. Please, PLEASE do not ever buy from Barrett Mitsubishi.
