American Honda Motor Company, Inc
Refused to replace defective driver door lock on 2005 Accord DX while under warranty, should I sue?

Cars & Transport

We purchased a brand new 2005 Honda Accord DX from a Honda Dealer, Metro Honda in Montclair, CA. My wife drives the car to and from her job each day with secure parking. The car was never tampered with and the door was never opened with a slim jim. American Honda Motor Company Customer Service was called when the dealer refused to repair the problem which was limited to the key tumbler on the driver side only, the key worked in each and every other lock and ignition. Honda Customer Service refused to intervene until I literally begged them to help me to insure my wife's car could be secured with a working door lock. Honda Customer Service reluctantly agreed to request that the dealer I purchased it from look at the problem but would not authorize the dealer or any Honda Dealer to replace the defective door lock tumber. The Metro Honda Dealer was nasty, unprofessional, and made me wait 4-5 hours for the service to be completed when I had made an advance appointment for this service. The problem was not resolved, the dealer maintained that the door had been tampered with and refused to replace the part. Period. Honda Customer Service refused to resolve this problem from this point on, even after I filed a complaint with the Bureau of Automotive Repair. Exhausted with my experience with American Honda Motor Company, I reluctantly brought the car to an independent service. During this period the car was under its 36000 mi. Warranty. The independent service shop which specializes in Honda cars and is well respected in the community of La Crescenta, related to me that this was a common occurrence with the DX models with non-power actuators. The Independent Honda Service owner related to me that American Honda Motor, Inc. Refuses this repair regularly from his experience due to the fact they would be responsible for re-keying the entire car which cost them money. Did American Honda Motor Company, Inc. Give any consideration to the fact that I owned 5 Honda vehicles previously and that I was the current owner of 2 Honda vehicles? Absolutely and categorically NOT. It would be nice if American Honda Motor Company, INC, saw fit to resolve this problem with me after all this time has passed.
