Failure to disclose rebuilt engine, valve cover was from junk yard. Miles might not be accurate

Cars & Transport

My husband and I flew to New Orleans to buy our 4dr Toyota Tacoma and then drove up to Staunton, VA to buy the other used blue 1994 toyota truck. We though the way their were pushing us to pay for the truck and get us out of dealership so they could close was a little rushed. The 1994 toyota was beautiful looking but what we didn't know is that the dealership didn't like the tick tick sound all older toyota trucks make. So the sales manager rebuilt the engine doing work on valves and had a junk yard valve cover and never told us.

We notice when looking the engine over with Ron after test drive didn't look right wasn't the original like we were told. Ron said he didn't know anything other than to sell them. So we were pressured to get this truck paid for and they wanted to go had stuff to do. We paid $5600 for the truck and drove 231 miles and engine blew up knocking so hard when you did get it to start. Then it cost us $300 out of our pocket to tow this truck back wasted a whole day doing this. The sales manager laughed when I asked for the money back it took to tow this truck back.

The sales manager said in front of his sales people that he was the one that took the engine apart to rebuild it as it was makes a tick tick sound. We were never told till this until after we towed the truck back, that the engine had valve work it didn't need and their valve job didn't work. The never said on autotrader about having any engine rebuilt or any work done on engine that it was all original. I would never buy from this dealer they can't be t rusted and are not honest. I am still waiting for $200 to be put back on my visa card. That was suppose to be back on yesterday! We had also found paper work that the 1994 toyota truck had 194,125 miles when worked on back in 2009 but dealership had truck listed at 170,000.

Did a carfax and that didn't show any miles as any different than those on truck so we were not sure about the accurate miles. I wouldn't buy a new truck let alone a used one from this dealer. The trip from New Orleans where we bought a super nice truck plus wasted time, gas, hotel and all the other expense are a lesson. If a dealer won't work with you don't go to them find another dealer. The 4dr toyota truck we bought in New Orleans was honest and never hurried us into anything and answered all questions when asked and came down $900 from listing price. Now thats a good dealer wanting your business.
