The Car Shop Fraud: Not the engine I paid for

I had the main bearing go out in the original motor in my Blazer, and Rusty quoted me a great deal on a re-manufactured motor. They say if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, but I couldn't resist. The motor I paid for was supposed to have come from Auto Dynamic Engine, out of Wyoming, which means it would have come with a 3-year unlimited mile warranty. Sounds pretty good, huh?

Well, the install seemed to go ok, but there were problems right away. Engine light always on, low oil pressure, problems with the tachometer. Rusty always had some explanation OTHER than the engine, like that my transmission was slipping, and for awhile I believed him. Then when the oil pressure was hitting zero at idle this summer, I got smart and took it to another mechanic.

Mechanic #2 said the motor was about to come apart, and by this time, I could hear the rods knocking pretty badly myself. I wasn't too worried, the motor being under warranty and all, until I gave Auto Dynamic Engine a call. Not only did they have no warranty information for my motor on file, they had no record of ever selling Rusty, The Car Shop, or Old Colorado City Garage a motor. But... They knew of Rusty. It seems this isn't the first time he's done this.

So long story short, I had the motor that Rusty put in replaced with a genuine ADE engine. It was installed by a reputable shop this time, and I had a chance to take a look at the motor that was in there after it came out. No way it was a re-manufactured motor. Our best guess is that it's the original motor that Rusty pulled out and did a patch job on.in any event, it's definitely not what I paid for!
