Shoddy work and Scams

I took a car in to PepBoys to have a full inspection and diagnostics done before I bought the car. This has proved to to be a big mistake. I hope others can avoid the problems I had by going to another company.

First, I was told the air filter was clean and looked new. Today, about 2 weeks later when I was getting my oil changed I was shown the filter and it was the dirtiest I had ever seen and I used to work for a quick lube type of place. My feeling is if they will lie to you about one thing they will do so with others.

Secondly, when they did the oil change it was discovered I was 3 quarts low on oil. The car only hold 3.8 quarts and there is no leak. Also, I know it was low at the time I took it in because there is a red plastic piece indicating how low your oil is. Although at the time I didn't know what the right gauge meant. After my oil change it now shows clear not red.

In addition, my radiator was out of fluid. Again there is no leak so I can only assume that it was not checked. I was also told I needed 3 new tires and that I should replace all four of them. Two other shops have agreed I only need my front tires replaced. This was just another way for them to try and scam more money from the customer.

In conclusion, don't take your car to PepBoys. Its hard to imagine any shop being worse than they are. Their negligence may have lead me to buy a car that I shouldn't have and from the sounds of the motor probably led to damage to it because they didn't perform the services I paid for.in short, don't go to PepBoys.
