Townsend Chevrolet BAD REPAIR ETHICS

Cars & Transport

My Husbandtookour 2001 Jeep Wrangler in for repair, explaining there was a coolant leak somewhere and needed it fixed, this was on 12/30. After inspection, the service shop called us and said the radiator had a bad leak in the bottom and needed replaced, with parts, labor and supplies it was $446.80, but the shop was to be closed for the holiday and we needed to have the Jeep gone by the same day, we agreed to the repairs.

That evening when my husband got off work we picked up the Jeep, the shop was closed at 4pm, my husband get off work at 4:30pm. My husband drove the Jeep home, about three miles from the shop, parked it and it sat until Monday when he drove to work, when he got to work, he called home, he had said it was still running hot and checked under the hood, he noticed the overflow had no coolant in and thought the repair shop had just not filled it up and came home that evening.

The following day our Mother, actually his Mother, who has been in the nursing home for the past two years, fell ill and was transfered to the hospital on Wednesday. The Jeep still leaking coolant fluid on the ground, on Thursday morning I meet my husband at the hospital and he was on his way to the service shop to complain that the Jeep was still leaking coolant fluid, which wassupposed to have been fixed, with the replacement of the new radiator.

This is less than a week of the repair. When my husband showed back up at the hospital, I was surprised, thinking the Jeep was at the shop. He told me they looked at it and said it was the water pump that was leaking coolant and for another two hour labor charge they could fix it. We were not happy as you could imagine, after spending close to $450 to repair the coolant leak. We returned homeknowing we is and did not have another $300for this.

After making servral calls to my son, who does repairs on his and to my cars in the past, he had said that most likely the water pump was the original leak, and was blowing coolant fluid onto the radiator.

Monday morning I called the repair shop to speak to the manager, Tom Leitch, who is also the owner, I had to leave a message for him to call me. When he called I explanied the situation to him, he said that he would check into it and call me back.

I did not hear from him, so I called again, he said after talking to his servicemen that the radiator was leaking from the top, not what the repairman had told my husband when they said we needed a new raditor, and that after fixing the radiator the pressure may have caused the water pump to start leaking. I explained that IF the Jeep was brought to his repair shop for a coolant leak, would they not have found that the water pump was causing a leak.

He said that there was nothing additional that he could do, I told him that we felt that they should repair the water pump for cost of parts only, without charging us an addtional labor charge, he was not willing to budge.

I feel we were duped, and possible the radiator was not at all in need of replacing and that they should make this right. Now we will have to pay someone else to remove the radiator to get to the water pump, so it can be replaced.

I think he should pay for the repairs or give us at least part of our money back... Our Jeep is just sitting in the snow. Have 4 wheel drive will travel in snow. Not today or for the last several days.
