I took my daughter's 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer ES, with a 2.0L (4 cyl) engine, in to the Pep Boys on Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL for an oil change. I am an ASE certified mechanic and have changed the oil on this vehicle numerous times myself. With a filter change, this vehicle only takes 4.5 quarts of oil. Upon reviewing the bill (the vehicle was picked up by my daughter and I did not see the bill until later) I noted that Pep Boys had charged me for 6 quarts of oil. When I called the shop, the manager stated that they just entered the vehicle info into the computer and charged what the database told them. I stated that I had the specifications manual which told how much oil it took, but that did not change his mind. The manager did, eventually offer to refund the money, but the fact is they tried to overcharge and did so on purpose. Also, they only offered after much arguing and after I revealed that I was a certified mechanic and had the specifications manual.
