Aamco Tansmission
Mr. Champ and Miss Beverly Gave quote of $1368.33 and after pulling transmission out he said $2952.77

Cars & Transport

I have a 2001 Honda Accord that I am financing from the dealer. Ihave only had it for about 4 years now and was experiencing some issues withthe car not picking up speed as it normally does when I accelerate. So Itook my car to aamco in Late May complaining of this issue. They had itfor a day and said they did not find anything going on with my transmission, excepted;I may need to replace my rear main seal gasket. A few months later I startedexperiencing hard shifts in the mornings when I would go to work but afterit warmed up My car drove normal.
So First I took my car to several shops sothat they can connect a scanner to read off any transmission issue. The reportread out Faulty Solenoid Valve Assembly, Poor electrical connection or opencircuit condition, or failed transmission shift control system, with thatreport I drove it back to Champ at Aamco Transmission and agreed to leave itfor further diagnosis. Champ called me and said his Technicians have driven thecar and cannot find a problem. I told him it only does it when it is cold. Champ replied back "Oh why didn't you tell me, we have been driving it anddriving it and of course it has to be cold".
I said I told you when theproblem occurs when I left it with Aamco back in May and also on Friday October1 when I dropped it off. I thought to myself I guess Aamco just do not listento customers complaint anymore or not very good listeners. Secondly, I thinkthat is something they should have figured out seeing that they are atransmission specialist. I agreed to leave my vehicle overnight; Champ said hewill contact me in the morning once they finished the external diagnosis again. I did not receive a call so I called Aamco that afternoon and Champ said thatthere was definitely something going on with the transmission which Ialready knew. He said that an external diagnosis was performed, a test drive, etc.
I then went to the shop to discuss my car situation and estimate. Irepeatedly ask for a quote on the transmission and he said he would need topull the transmission out in order for him to let me know if I needed hardparts and/or a torque converter, mind you my car is completely drivable andonly hard shift when the transmission is cold. I told Champ that I havean extended warranty on my car and provided him withthe information if only it would not exceed the $2000 cap. I spoke toChamp several time telling him that I only have Max $2000 coverage.
Afterdiscussing my estimate he finally gave me a quote of $1368.33. I asked him willthat go up? He replied yes it could go up. Then before I sign the paper work topull the Transmission I asked, Can it possibly be more than $2000?"No Idon't believe it will go over $ but your Warranty company will cover itanyways" I quickly said "No No No I told you if it's over $2000 theywill not cover it and I'm on crutches as you can see due to a major kneesurgery"."I am on temporary leave and I do not have the money"
If Aamco cannot do it for $2000 or less than there is no point in me signingthe paper because I do not have the money. I just graduated college, working apart time job taco bell. Now I have torecover from knee surgery so I cannot afford it. I have somewhere else thatquoted me $1500 for a re-manufactured transmission. I can just go there becausei absolutely do not have any money and can not pay any additional cost. This iswhy I have been paying this extended warranty company the required paymentevery month for over 2 years and have paid a total of $1345 to date.

He assuredme that it would not exceed $2000 on Saturday October 2, the day I signedpaper work to pull the transmission out. I called Monday Oct. 4th becauseI have no transportation to physical therapy and was actually seeing if thetransmission was pulled out yet. He said the Technician just started on my car. I waited all day for a call from Champ with any new information, he said hestill did not know yet and was still communicating with the extended warranty. He said to me "we are trying to figure it out, be patient" Iimmediately called my father because I knew something fishy was going on.
Whycan you not give me an exact estimate if the diagnosis is complete? Why I amnot notified of any new information pertaining to my vehicle and mytransmission before the extended warranty company? My father called TuesdayOctober 5th after the Transmission was pulled out and an internaldiagnosis was complete. Champ was very short with my father. He did not knowthat my father is a mechanic. He lives out of state and had already known basically whatwas going on and how Aamco was going to try and charge me parts that werenot damaged.
My father asked him to tell him what is going on with his daughterscar. Champ replied, "She has internal transmission damage". Thisis known already. My father says yes of course I know that but what is going onwith the Transmission he rambled on about radiator lines should be replace forpreventative maintenance because it is a which he basically sayingthat because my car was made in 2001 and we are in 2010 that its time tochange it even though it is not broken, one transmission mount is broken, thenhe finally said a linear solenoid, new banner kit, new hard parts, a torqueconverter, etc.
They went on with a 15 min discussion and my father told himthat she only has $2000 max. I am sure that this extensive list of problems withthe transmission is untrue. She does not need a torque converter and can youtell me how much will everything cost? Champ replied I am still unsure I amcommunicating with the extended warranty company now. My father said, you musthave an idea You deal with transmission and I am sure Aamco Transmissions haverepaired many Honda vehicles. Can you give me what you think it will cost? Champ could not provide myself or my father with an estimate based off theexternal and internal diagnosis I called the extended warranty company andsaid did my repair shop send over and estimate?
She said yes they did, sheproceeded to give me the estimated total of $2952.77, soon after saying but Iam sorry ma'am we will only cover $2000 of that. I am in Shock. First Champdid not tell me any of this information before sending it to my warrantycompany, secondly the cost that we agreed it would not exceed, it did by 952.77before tax. It's as if he is trying to milk my extended warranty company for asmuch as he can get without me knowing about the estimate but I do not understandbecause I repeatedly told him that they will only cover $2000 and if it willcost more than that then don't even bother.
I immediately calledChamp and asked, do you have any new information for me? He said your repairwas authorized by the extended warranty company. I said thats good so how muchwas the estimate? He replied, Your extended warranty company has a $2000 capand your waaay over. I said what is way over he says about $800. Said I cannotpay that, he says try to call and ask why you have to pay any money if you havean extended warranty and I said but I know why because that is their policy.$2000 for transmission and thats that. Ithen asked was the radiator line and transmission mount included in the estimate?
He said NO, and then states I am going to tryand work something out. I will call you. I did not receive a call within 3 to 4hours so I set up transportation to the shop and ask Champ so what can you do. Champ then says there is nothing he can do. So now my vehicle is in there shopwith the transmission pulled out. To repair the vehicle it will be $3000 plus. Champ is trying to charge me $900 to put the transmission back into my car. He saidthat would be the difference anyways when the extended warranty pays $2000. This is unfair, and something should be done about this scam.
