Deceptive Practices

I recently went to Jiffy Lube for a routine oil change. Below is the letter I wrote to the company.

I have been to your Jiffy Lube store three times this past year to get my oil changed. The first two times were fantastic and I even sent emails to express my appreciation for a wonderful experience. However this last time was a bit different. I understand that it is the technicians job to "upsell" however it upset me when they wanted to top off my coolant, when it was clearly not needed. I was told it was low and that they could top it off for $4.00. I declined as it is more economical for me to purchase the coolant and add it myself. Well when I went to add the coolant I was only to discover that the coolant was not low, that it was completely full. I believe that since I'm a woman that your technicians perceive me as having the inability to understand anything auto related. I would not be surprised if many women actually don't know what is going on and accept the $4.00 charge for a service that is not even needed.

Then after I declined the coolant another technician brought over an air filter to try to get me to buy a new one from Jiffy Lube. Well, what upset me is that the air filter he was showing me wasn't actually my air filter. They didn't even check to see if I needed one. Well I may not have a lot of auto experience, however even I know how to change my air filter. I declined your company's air filter replacement and went and purchased one for a fraction of the cost of what your company would have charged. I can not say whether I'll be back or not, I no longer feel the loyalty to your company and will from now on go where I can get the biggest bang for my buck. I will however state that I will no longer boast about how good of a company Jiffy Lube is. I will no longer send friends and coworkers in your direction. I will however let everyone know the two above practices, if for nothing else than to just educate other women so they are not duped.
