Marietta Jeep
Ripoff Fraudulent application, forceful selling tactis of extended warranty I will NEVER buy another Jeep product

Cars & Transport

On Nov. 1 my husband and I were returning from holiday when we stopped at the Marietta Jeep. We told them we were interested in the Jeep Liberty. At the time we had been familiar with their product, as the car we would trade in was also a Jeep. We were VERY up front about our financial situation. (i.E. I did not work, and was partially disabled at the time, and that my husband had filed for a bankruptcy not long ago) We told them we knew we were upside down in our current car payemtns and if a deal could be worked out, fine. If not, thanks for your time.

We were able to make a deal, but the car would be in MY name only. I was also told, at the time, by the salesperson, Mr. Haverty, that THE ONLY REASON Chrysler would finance me was because of the extended warrenty they told me I had to purchase, they also would not let my husband in the room as I signed the finance papers. It should also be noted that the ad list price of the vechile was at $14.998 - but due to being upside down in our trade in, the total sale was $24.882.

So I had a new car, and for about a month I was very happy with it. After that, there was nothing but problems. The radio was replaced two times - we were told that they usually put crappy systems in, so what could we expect (that is a quote from the service person when asked what went wrong) - the radio is still not working right.

Then we started experiencing troubles with the engine. It would stall, hesitate, and blow back through the carburator. We took it in several times, but they could not find anything wrong with it. Finally, one day as I was driving home the car stalled and stopped and finally started but ran so rough I was afraid I would not get home at all. We took it in and they told us it was "only" a spark plug that needed to be replaced. Trouble is, it never ran right after that. We have taken this car in at least 8 times for the same reason. The dealership we took it too was not Marietta Jeep, because they were too far away for us to travel (about 100 miles from where we live).

We had Chrysler's people come out and look at the car and time and time again they told us the car worked within the paramters of any other vechicle in its class (they all run THIS bad?) Finally, after making a big deal about it, the best they would tell us was it was a design flaw and that when the A. C was running the car would lose power.

Well, this car does this same thing with or without the A.C. On. We have done everything that was required of us (according to the paperwork we had been given at Marietta) and were still unhappy with how the car worked so we began writing to Chrysler itself, and they inturn tell us there is nothing they can do.

In the end we decide to trade it in, because it is no longer a reliable vechicle for us anymore. We go to Hughes Honda and find out that I can not buy a car - because I had no job - but I told them, I had bought the Jeep all by myself, and I had NO INCOME then!

They told me it would be to my intrest to get a FAX of my original credit application from Jeep Marietta. So I did, and I found out that all of my financial information had been falsified by someone. I get $300.00 a month in child support - but it reported I recieved $400.00 a month. I have NO other income and have not had any in the last 5 years, yet this application stated that I was receieving $2465 a month in military retirement! And all after being in service for 25 years! I was NEVER in the service!

I was so mad, first we get sold a bad product, BUT because of the way they word the repair reports, we can not hope to apply the lemon law to it, and now I find out they lied on my app, and the dealer, after we showed up their with copy in tow, basically told me that. How didn't he know that I had not been the one that lied on the application itself.

I had no reason too, that was my answer. We did not need the car THAT bad. Now we have called Marietta Jeep, Cryshler Financial and Cryshler Corporate and the following are a list of excuses, answers and run around we have recieved.

We can "inflate" the info on your application. It's called a "puffering law" - well they did more than inflate, THEY LIED!

All we care is that we receive your payment, you are still going to pay for this car right?

All we can do is make a "notation" in your file Mrs. Deem

How about you give us $5000.00 and we will call this whole thing even (that comes right from the owner himself) - now lets see, they gave us $2780 for our trade in, we have made at least $4700.00 in actual car payments, they must have made some money from the resale of our trade in, lets say $8000, low balling it, and they STILL want money from us?

As it is, the Jeep now sits at Mareitta collecting dust. I have called everyone from the BBB of Georgia to the Consumer Advocate and even a few lawyers, and what I found out is this - our laws protect the seller, NOT the buyer. I will NEVER buy another Jeep product and will encourage others to do the same!
