Unreasonable charge for missed flight

Me and my spouse had reside in Baltimore and we'd routes from JFK Ny to Georgetown Guyana with Delta. Doctor had 2-feet of ideal your day before and our trip and we could not escape to create it towards the airport promptly. We named DELTA to reschedule and was billed $953 to alter our routes to another available. We were informed that it's not their problem that people could not create it towards the airport.
