Cars & Transport

My entire experience w / this dealer has been a nightmare. It started off when I wanted to look at the car that I eventually purchased. I got there and they couldn't find the car! (WTF!) That alone should have warned me to hightail it out of there. I called back (b/c a return call from them would be unprecedented) and they assured me they'd have the car ready for me... I showed up and of course, they didn't. Fastforward to the actual purchase. Neither my husband and are not mechanics, but we have a basic knowledge of cars. We were concerned about the brake pads needing to be replaced b/c they were spongy and making grinding type sounds. The co-owner who sold us the car assured us that there had to be at least 50% left on the pads to pass inspection (like it'd be the first time a used car dealer looked the other way as far as inspection repairs are concerned). Anyway, to make a sale, he told us that we had 48 hrs. To have the pads inspected and notify them if they had less than 50%. If that were the case, they'd replace them at no charge to us. Well, I inspected the sales contract, which contained a standard provision stating that there are no express or implied warranties w / regard to the sale of the car. So, I made the guy amend the contract to include our agreement about the brake pads b/c I KNEW if I didn't, he'd deny the conversation ever took place if we had to have the pads replaced. Well, big surprise, my hubby takes the car to his mechanic - the rear pads need to be replaced. We call Maximum Scams SEVERAL times that day and never got a return phone call. Finally, I talk to a sales guy, Gabriel (a fake-happy-go-lucky moron, BTW), and the co-owner is trying to weasel out of our deal, mentioning something about how the 48 hrs. Was the timeframe in which we had to have the inspection, notify Maximum Scams, AND bring the car in for repairs. Oh, HELL NO that was not the deal. If that were the case, all Maximum Scams would have to do is not answer or return our phone calls (as they were doing)... Then we'd be unable to get the repairs done and the 48 hrs. Would lapse. The 48 hrs. Was just the time limit for inspection and notification - then we'd arrange a mutually agreeable time to get the repairs. They eventually relented b/c of course, they have no defense. They are 100% wrong and guilty, and they know it. I have everything documented and in writing. We bring the car in for repairs (I also insisted that they give us the old parts so we know they replaced the pads... Although that's no guarantee, either, but it makes it harder for them to screw us over). Mind you, all these back and forth trips are after work during the week, and we live about 35 min. Away one way. So, we told them to hide the key in a certain agreed upon place b/c we'd be picking up the car after hrs. We drive all the way out there after my husband has worked a 12 hour day... AND THE KEY ISN'T THERE! Are these people total idiots or are they trying to mess w / us! Now we're going to have to arrange another unnecessary trip to Manassas. This is in addition to the misrepresentations that the co-owner made about the car. When looking at the car, I expressed my disappointment that it didn't come w / keyless entry. He was blowing smoke up my @ss about how it's a GL (base model), they didn't come w / that feature, blah blah blah. I was aware it was a base model... But it's a 2003 VW. It's not like it's a 1983 model. Afterwards, I spoke to a VW dealership and I looked online, sure enough, keyless entry was a standard feature for that year and model. For whatever reason, it didn't have the keyless entry fob. If the guy didn't know what he was talking about, he shouldn't have said anything. He didn't have to make outright lies. Another thing that bothered me about the co-owner who made the sale is he kept saying, "trust me, " "trust me." Why the hell should I trust him? I don't know him! A used car salesman is one of the last people you want to trust. Plus, he kept trying to hurry the sale along, which was another bad sign. I really regret not completely listening to my instincts. Most disturbing of all, this is the CO-OWNER we're talking about. He lied and mishandled this entire transaction. He is unashamed to try to weasel out of commitments he has made. That's a huge statement about the company's philosophy and way of doing business. My only hope is that this place tanks and goes out of business. If other people who are taken advantage of keep spreading the word, it seems inevitable. You reap what you sow.
