Hanson Auto Repair
Transmission misrepair, refusal to fix the problem rip-offs

Cars & Transport

The incident happened about 12 or 13 years ago, so I will report just those things I am confident аbout:

Basically I took my Toyota Celecia to Hanson's to have something relatively simple done to the manual transmission, possibly changing the transmission fluid or filter. Whatever the procedure, it did require removing or at least dropping down the transmission.

I arranged for friends to drive me to work and back to Hanson's the next day to pick up the car, but it wasn't ready as they had said it would be. So I had to make other arrangements to get home, get to work the next day, etc. They did have the car ready, and I paid for the services that were alledgedly performed.

I noticed, however, as I drove off that the car was not shifting smoothly. This was a 5-speed transmission, and there was a decided hitch in the shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd. I thought perhaps it was something that would settle into place, but it never did.

I took it back to Hanson's after a while and left it there for diagnosis and repair. When I came to pick up the car, the fellow said that there was nothing they could do—that the problem was an "internal" one. This was a baffling answer to me because they had to partially disassemble the transmission in the first place to do the original work. It sounded like they had not even bothered to open up the transmission and look at it. They pretty much said it wasn't their fault, so get lost.

I regret I didn't report Hanson's to the Better Business Bureau at the time, and I applaud the woman (Carol) I saw today protesting out in front of the place.
