I own a 2000 Volvo S80 T6, I have owned this car for well over a year and have never had any major mechanical problems go wrong w / the the car. This June I noticed that the car was whinning a bit when I turned the steering wheel, so I took it to a mechanic we use often and he found that the steering rack gaskets were leaking and told us that it was not something he could fix. So, we ended up having to have the Volvo Dealership in Bangor, Maine do the repair. The dealership is called Darling's Honda Volvo. They had my car for approx. 3 weeks because the steering rack was a huge task in this year Volvo S80, it was conected to the wiring and required a computer update. Basically, expensive as heck, to the tune of $2500.00. So, we finally get the car back and I had it for about 4 days before going to use it. Car was dead, dead, dead. The battery was completly drained of any juice. SO, I call and the first response is it could not be anything they did, and it must be an existing problem and I could bring the car to them, but they would not even look at it w/o confirmation that I would pay for any and all repairs. I politly told the service manager, Don, that I have had the car for well over a year and it has started everyday for me and now upon them touching it, it will not start. He proceeded to talk to me like I was a 2 year old and stupid as all heck. He then told me to drive the car to them for them to check it over, I did not want to drive it so I called a tow truck. Upon getting it on the tow truck we discovered that the sway linkage was not even connected to the steering rack, which meant that my passenger front tire was not completly connected to my car. Nice, huh? I have two children and what if I had driven the car and gotten into an accident. So, again I call Don at Volvo who swears that I was seeing things and there is no way that it was not attached. So, now they have the car again and claim it is all a battery issue and they did nothing to cause the issue. And they also have no idea why the battery keeps draining. So, I now have a car that has been rendered useless to me and all I wanted was my steering rack replaced. Darling' Volvo has ruined my car and does not care because guess what? They have their money, to the tune of $2500. Don, the service manager, also now claims that the sway linkage was in fact attached, just the nut was not tight. Which I know is crap, as I physically moved the sway linkage and it was not attached AT ALL to the steering rack.
Do not go near this place to fix a car! Especially, if you are a women. They think you are stupid and will treat you accordingly.
