Scammed! Lured by cheap oil change, they tore CV boots

Cars & Transport

On June 23 I ordered an oil change on my 1994 Honda Civic, upgrading the oil to 40 weight cost $27.95 plus tax.

While my car was on the lift, somebody damaged the right front axle by tearing the outside CV boot and squeezing the grease out of the inside CV boot, irreparably damaging both boots, and causing me to spend $257.62 at an honest auto mechanic shop (MBS), which had recently (within 2 months) replaced other parts and assured me my front end was sound.

I took my car to MBS on June 5 and showed the mechanics; they recalled working on the car and specifically remembered checking to make sure the boots were not torn or worn out. They pointed out that the inside boot had marks consistent with fingers gripping the boot in an attempt to tear it, and showed me the grease that was squeezed out was fresh (no dirt or grime on it).
