Stuart's Paint & Body
Damaged my car while in their care and refused to pay additional rental car charges incurred while they fixed their mistakes

Cars & Transport

Stuart's Paint & Body failed to pay 7 days rental charges to which they had agreed and had the rental car company subsequently bill my credit card directly for the amount they agreed to pay. This was after my credit card had already been billed the original balance due for my rental agreement.

My car was taken to Stuart's Paint & Body on a Monday to repair a simple door-ding on the right side of the vehicle. Visual inspection was made when dropped off and no other damages were present nor noted. Work was originally reported as finished on Friday of that week, but could not be picked up until after the 3 day weekend. When pickup was attempted after the weekend, it was learned that the vehicle would not start the previous Friday when pickup was originally scheduled and that the vehicle was manually pushed to the rear of the facility for storage at that time. Not only would the car not start, but I found new damages had been sustained to the rear bumper of the vehicle as well. Stuart's agreed to repair the bumper and made attempts to repair the vehicles electronics in order to get the car running. This took an additional 7 days from the time the car was originally reported as ready. I was told by Stuart's that they would cover the additional rental car charges since my vehicle was not ready as promised. I was called to pickup my car on Friday after they had it for two weeks, but had to drive directly to the dealer to have the electronics properly diagnosed and repaired.in the meantime, Stuart's failed to pay the extra 7 days rental car charges and had the rental car company bill my credit card directly after my original balance due had already been paid. All subsequent attempts at remediation have failed to recover the 7 days of rental charges owed to me.instead, Stuart's has made accusations that the damages could not have been sustained on their property and that any additional work was done only in good faith, even though previous conversations and documentation proves their fault & liability.

I find Stuart's Paint & Body does do good body work, although more slowly than other shops. However, they are arrogant and are not reputable when it comes to admitting to their mistakes and making good on charges they agreed to pay due to their negligence. I especially would not trust them to handle any late-model European automobiles that have sophisticated electronic systems. When they compromised the electronics the car would not start. When the car would not start they manually forced it out of gear without ignition, relocated the car by pushing it, damaged the bumper, and in trying to jump it and get it to start further damaged the car's electronics and the battery.

If you have a late model European automobile, avoid Stuart's Paint & Body as they will not work with you at all to make remediation in the event there is a problem. Buyer beware!
