Culver Automotive
Culver Automotive charges for Diagnostics and lies about apply charge to future repairs

Cars & Transport

I took my 2003 BMW 530i to have the computer read because the check engine light was on. The owner Dimitry Kamar tells me that the computer diagnostics is usually free everywhere else but he charges $120 which is applied to future repairs. This according to him is so that I come back and have the work done there. I agree and he checks the car and clears the computer. He says that the computer had a lot of stored codes so it was best to drive the car till the light came back on again then run the computer check again. The light didn't come back on for 2 and a half months.

At that point I call Dimitry and he tells me to bring it in again to check the computer and I ask him to change the oil so that I could apply some of that $120 credit that I have. I drop off the car and am quoted $180 for the oil change. I make sure with the guy at the counter that I have the $120 credit and he acknowledges the credit. When I came back to pick the car up he charges me $190 without the credit and tells me that I need to have the transmission replaced for $5200 along with a laundry list of other items that need replacing.

What I didn't tell them was that most of those items had already been taken care of and that the computer had been read at another service center which just recommended I change the transmission fluid. I was forced to pay $310 for a $60 oil change and my credit was not honored. I figured that the $190 oil change was with the $120 factored in and I should have only paid $70. When I did finally talk to the owner he basically gave me two options, pay or call the cops. He knew that they couldn't do anything and he was right. Sounded like he's been through this before and had all his bases covered.
