Extended Warranty Corp
Louie the Lia

Cars & Transport

I have attempted several times to cancel my now deceased grandmother's account with Extended Warranty Corp. After noticing automatic debits totalling almost $100 per month from my grandmother's bank account. (Make your own assumptions about a company charging an 88 year old woman $100 per month for a car purchased for $4000.)

Upon conducting internet research and multiple telephone calls, I was finally able to contact the "sales" department of EWC. The sales department is not able to assist with cancelling an account and I was forwarded to the "customer service" message line. I left four messages with the "customer service" department according to the given instructions. Of course, my calls were never returned within the promised 24 hours and it is not possible to speak with the "customer service" representatives directly.in the meantime, an additional debit occurred against my grandmother's account.

Only upon voicing great frustration and being told at least twice by a sales representative that they would "walk my request over" (where, to the next cubicle?) to "customer service", was I called back (11 days following my initial message).

I again voiced my great frustration in my attempts to cancel the account.instead of apologies, sympathy, and assistance I was told I was "ignorant" and could call back later before "Louie" hung up.

I immediately returned the call and was transferred to the "sales" manager, Sean. As Sean picked up my call, I heard someone yell, "b*tch!" in the background. When I told Sean I heard the exclamation, he denied it. Sean also said that Louie reported that I had used the "f word" and other profanity which was completely false. As a sales manager, Sean could not actually help me and only transferred me back to Louie's voicemail.

Louie returned my phone call whereupon I thanked him for lying about me and asked three times for the procedure to cancel the account ("may I have the procedure for cancelling an account, please?") before he transferred my yet again to another representative.

Apparently, EWC requires a written letter requesting cancellation, the reason for cancellation, a copy of the death certificate, and four to six weeks for processing. No other account, including credit cards, financial institutions, insurance, IRS, SSA has required such information. I received only rudeness and difficulty from the least legitimate company, EWC, in the affairs of closing my grandmother's estate.

I am sure that my experience will come as no surprise to those familiar with the tactics of "extended warranty" companies. It is deeply disappointing to learn that, yes, my grandmother was the victim of predators.
