Never told me the vehicle I bought had a rebuilt/salvage title

Cars & Transport

Stopping by the dealer, they stated assistance with financing a vehicle. I put a deposit on a 2005 Acura MDX. A week later I was told I was not eligible for financing. I then paid for the car with cash and credit card.

When I signed the bill of sale, they had me sign the "as is", not explaining why. I am limited in understanding, reading and writing English. The Spanish speaking saleswomen didn't explain anything about anything. Also, they could not find the title saying it was a different location.

Two days later I returned to have a scratch repaired, having found out from carfax that the vehicle had been an accident. The manager then told me the car had been in a little accident. They still did not have the title to give me.

I had to wait almost three weeks to get the title. It was then I found out the car had a rebuilt title. No one explained to me what that meant. I found out from my insurance agent that I had a big problem as I was registering the car in New York. They told me I would have to go through a special state inspection (requiring an application fee of $200 and a timely period for an appointment). The agent then recommended I return the car.

I returned to the dealer and was told by the manager that they cannot take the car back because I had signed the "as is". He told me that it was against the law for him to take the car back. The dealer offered no other assistance in helping me with this problem or in getting the car registered.

I eventually found out the reason for the car having had a salvage and then rebuilt title. That was by calling CT DMV and obtaing the information from the insurance company. It had been in a garage fire and had total interior damage.

The process for the special state inspection took months to get an appointment. This all resulted in me and other people spending countless hours getting the information I needed for the inspection. It also cost me a number of days of lost pay during my need to return to the dealer.

Beware of going to this dealer because at the beginning they are friendly and cooperative, but after the sale they don't want to know you. They speak with forked tongues. Before you buy a car there make sure you get all the facts about a previouly owned car. Don't be fooled by their financing offers.
If a deal looks too good to be true it probably is. My best recommendation is to not even bother going to Bob"s Dodge, Country Motors.

I was helped by my English teacher in writing this report.
