Walmart "Road Hazard"
Rip Off Misleading customers about what road hazard covers

Cars & Transport

Walmart is always working a scam it seems. Yesterday (April 12th) I pulled my vehicle into a Walmart looking for some rear tires. The lady that was doing the selling kept trying to push "road hazard" coverage but could not tell me exactly what road hazard coverage was nor could she provide me with any literature that described what exactly "road hazard" coverage was. I asked her on several occasions if the tires were pro-rated for wear and she acted as if she did not know what I was talking about and insisted that I needed road hazard coverage to be covered.

I asked this same question of 2 other employees in the auto department and got the same propaganda about the need to buy road hazard insurance. I paid my inflated bill and noticed that the road hazard warranty was printed on the back of the receipt. This was the first time that I was able to see it and it had nothing to do with the pro-rated mileage warranty.

I also noticed that there was nothing on the bill about the mileage warranty for the tires. I demanded that they provide this information or take the tires back. All of a sudden she understood what I was talking about, pulled up the warranty information on her register and printed the information out for me.

Also on the bill and not mentioned ahead of time were a $15 a tire mounting charge and a $3 a tire disposal fee. I don't know about you but I believe in being told what something is going to cost ahead of time NOT after. If I had known I was going to be charged $3 to dispose of a perfectly good tire I would have kept it or sold it to someone.

The bottom line is that Walmart is in the business of outright lieing about their road hazard warranty in order to steal from their customers. That is OK though, there are 2 sets of rules about stealing. It's OK for big companies to do it but they whine and want the book thrown at any of the little people that steal from them.

It's time to fight back a little people. The next time that the person at the exit door wants to see your receipt and hence steal some of your time without compensating you for it. Walk on by and politely tell
them "no thank you". If they dare to detain you in any manner then you can sue them for illegal detainment in a civil court if not pressing criminal charges against the person that detained you.
