Towing Without Permission

I took my car to a repair shop here in Martinsburg this week. I wanted them to merely do a computer diagnosis on the system to better pin-point the problem for me. The mechanic comes out to take the car for a test drive. I told him not to take it out because the car would stall out on him and he would get stuck. He said not to worry, he knew what he was doing. Well, a half hour later he came back with my car in tow from another service station. They didn't even have their own tow truck in case of emergencies. They knew fully well that the car had been cutting out on me while driving. I felt he took the car out at his own risk - not mine. With that warning, he didn't eventake a cell phone with him. I asked him if he figured out what the problem was. He said yes it was definitely the ignition module. I told him that he must be mistaken since it had just been replaced and the problem continued. He pushed th ecar into the garage and decided within 5 minutes that it must be the computer. He also found a leak in the crank sensor. His quote was for a total of $450. This did not include the tow and the $25 for the computer diagnosis. My Ford garage doesn't charge for the computer diagnosis if I get the repairs done there. I turned down the repair of the crank sensor. I decided that I could do that at a later date. Before they did the repairs I tried to ask several questions about the computer diagnosis. I wanted to know if they had tried disconnecting three sensors to make sure they didn't have codes. He said he didn't need to do three since he was a qualified GM certified mechanic, and he got rather hostile about my questioning. When the ignition system was fixed at another garage, he swears that that system was bad. I paid $300 to repair it. The car started to do the same things all over again when I decided to take it for this test. I have no guarrantees that the test was even done, or that this is the real problem. I only have my receipt. The garage that charged me for the computer went ahead and charged me for the towing even though I made it clear that I would not be responsible for that. I've spent $700 dollars so far. What is your take on this situation? Should I have had to pay for the tow? Did I get ripped off for the repairs? Could they both have gone out at the same time? The garage that fixed the ignition module was Import Proffessionals on route 51 in Inwood, WV. The garage that fixed the computer was Duncan Brothers on Winchester Ave., Martinsburg, WV. I have a 1992 Chev. Lumina with 151,000 miles on it. Thanks for your feed back
