Rip-off on transmission problem

I have a 97 ford taurus that needed a new transmission at 57,000 miles. I am the original owner and of course the warrenty and extended warrenty were up. I was informed by the repair company that this is a very common problem with the taurus. I emailed ford but have gotten no response. Everyone should write who had to replace their trans!
