Cars & Transport

On July 8 I purchased a 1997 Chevrolet Pick-up truck from Rick Owens at North Clinton Motors. On July 9 I returned to the car lot and spoke with Mr. Owens, regarding a tapping noise that I heard coming from the lower front end of the truck. At this time Mr. Owens stated that he had driven and inspected the truck, and that the truck was in perfect condition.

I explained to him that I returned to speak to him because the noise concerned me, and that I had already invested additional funds to improve the trucks appearance i.E. CD player, speakers and window tinting. I didnt want a different vehicle, but I was concerned. Mr. Owens assured me that the truck was fine and the sound was normal.

After driving the truck in town, the sound continues and became louder. On July 26 I returned to North Clinton Motors and expressed to Mr. Owens my extreme concern regarding the noise. Mr. Owens instructed me to two different mechanics that he knew, to have the truck inspected. Following Mr. Owens instructions, I took the truck to the two mechanics for inspection. The day after the inspections were complete, I phoned Mr. Owens to inform him of the results. During that conversation, I informed Mr. Owens of the exact problems that both mechanics had diagnosed, and that I would like to take the truck to my own mechanic for inspection. Mr. Owens agreed, and told me to call him with the final costs of repairs.

That following week, the truck broke down on South Anthony Blvd. At that moment, I immediately phoned Mr. Owens at North Clinton Motors to inform him of the problem. I explained to him, in detail, exactly what happened. Mr. Owens then told me that he had neither the time or mechanics to help me. I then asked him if he still was going to pay for the repairs of my truck, as promised the week before. He stated that he would not, and hung up.

In addition, during this time, a mechanic from North Clinton Motors by the name of Nick attempted to repair my truck, which resulted in further damage to my truck. Nick also informed me after trying to fix my truck that he could not repair the truck, and that if my truck was not removed from the lot of North Clinton Motors, that it would soon be towed away, by the request of management. I then paid for my truck to be towed to my home.

Mr. Rick Owens at first assured me that he would help me resolve the problems with my newly purchased truck, and even told me to get an estimate for repairs. I do not understand his change of heart, and I am very frustrated because of his empty promises. I was assured the day that I purchased this truck that it was in great condition, and it had no problems. I also had the impression of North Clinton Motors being a reputable, trust-worthy business. This all lead me to months of no transportation, and still at this point, a newly purchased truck that does not even start.

I have incurred a large amount of costs in pursuit to repair this truck. I have been informed by two mechanics that I would require a new engine for this truck. Out of the six and a half months of owning this vehicle, I have only been able to drive it for 60 days.

I have written this company a letter asking for help. I have contacted an attorney, and he said the cost would be to great to fight it.

One big note, since I bought the truck, I have been researching different things, and trying to get help. I read about "the buyer's guide" that is supposed to be in every vehicle that a car lot sells. There was no buyer's guide that came with my truck, and I looked a the car lot, and over half of the cars do not have them either. That is against the law.

Also, when I bought the truck, Rick Owens told me that it came with a warrantee. He lied, it had no warrantee. The truck only had 49,000 miles on it, and now I am told that it needs a whole new engine. Please help.
