Drive Time / Ugly Duckling
Dealer backed out of deal/stole my money and refused to refund it

I was in the Chandler AZ, Drivetime dealership and was in the middle of purchasing a 2005 mini van with the understanding that the dealer was giving me $700 for trade in on my car and I was putting $300 down on the deal. Before the papers were signed the sales person had me pay my $300 down payment and call to change over my insurance.

When all of a sudden the manager came out and told my husband that he could not give us $700 on the trade and that he could only give us $350. He stated we would have to increase our down payment to cover the $350. We did not have $650 for a down so we chose to walk away from the deal.

When we asked for our money back we were told that because we used our debit card that they could not credit our card and that they would need to have a check cut. They assured us that we could pick it up the next day.

This was all on Tuesday. Later that night, I recieved a call from a family member who was having a financial emergency and needed to borrow some money. I gave them the money, knowing that I would have my refund the next day. Well you guessed it. It is now Friday and I have gotten nothing but the run around.

All they had to do was make the deal as they stated and this would not be an issue, but instead we are trying to recoup our money so that we can still buy a car somewhere.

To top it all off my account is now overdrawn because my auto pay bills came out today and I didn't have enough time to cancel them. I never would have loaned out my money if I knew that this company was not going to pay me back in the time frame that they agreed to.

When I called their corp. Office the gal on the phone stated when I told her the story..."That sounds like a back out on your part in which you would not recieve a refund... And the financial office had no record of our transaction. I want to know when I am getting my money back...!

What a rip off.
