Joe's Garage
Shoddy work, outrage over questioning

Cars & Transport

July 07 I delivered my 2003 Ford Mustang to Joe's Garage for a tune-up. Upon inspection, they notified me that brake pads were 80% worn and suggested replacement. I agreed.

October 08 I notice while braking that I hear horrible grinding. Upon delivering my Mustang to the Ford Dealer in my area, they notify me that the front brakes are almost completely worn out. They say this is very unusual but may have been caused by Joe's Garage failing to "sand" (?) the pads, and instead just installing them. A quality garage would have done more than just install the pads, because without proper installation they can wear out quickly.

I called Joe's Garage and spoke with "Joe, " simply stating our past history and the current problem. I was polite and open to his ideas. He was immediately angry, defensive, and accusatory. He suggested the Ford dealer and I were lying, and stated he wouldn't believe anything unless he saw the car himself. He suggested I was driving recklessly and assured me the pads were good and he installed them correctly ("sanding" and all).

I asked him what he could do about it if there was a problem, and he became even more angry and defensive, accusing EVERYONE of lying and suggesting he wouldn't do anything. He replied that brake pads could easily wear out after 15 months and "that's your problem."

This outburst of anger and accusation surprised me, and at this point I couldn't help myself and told him, "You're being a jerk!" He hung up.

I will not let his garage touch my car again, because they have either improperly installed brake pads or installed faulty brake pads. The owner, "Joe, " is incredibly unprofessional and unhelpful, not willing to back up his work or correct or even consider an error he may have made. I do not wish to do business with someone who insults their customers.
