Parking with a Price

On October 10 our family vehicle was towed from right outside the theater where our daughter was performing. There are few parking lots in the area. When my wife pulled into the closest one the attendant said it would be $5.00 for the night. Or park in the lot next door (that he said managed by the same company) for free for the short time of the performance. Asking the attendant more than once (two adults in their mid 30's, a 13 year old, a 12 year old, and a 9 year old all witness to this) if he was sure it would be okay, my wife parked in the recommended lot.

Returning to the vehicle after the show, our vehicle was not there. The attendant informed us that it was towed. Trying to get information as to why, who called in the tow, and responsible party names, we were asked to leave. Neither the attendant or another gentleman claimng to be the manager would give any information to assist us. After noticing a Floyd's Towing Service truck take a vehicle from the same lot in question we called and they did have our vehicle.

At the towing company, the employee (who also would not give his name), told me that he wrote the invoice (he said it was a ticket and that we had been ticketed) so that it appeared we had mechanical problems. That way we could claim it on insurance and be reimbursed and "then it's like it didn't happen" (quoting the tow truck employee). I own an automotive repair facility in the city and deal with towing services regularly. This type of approach is unethical and of course unture. Fortunately it is indicative of the companies I deal with.

There may be absolutely nothing to this but at $140 (can only be paid in cash!) per vehicle towed, and it is a very busy area, picking out a target that might have that cash on hand just a few times a night, could... I will net someone else be the judge.
