Tried to sell me a battery to replace my good battery

I have purchased tires from Tires Plus, in the past and had no problems with them, so when I found out they do oil changes & because their Cliff Road store is so convenient to me, I went there for an oil change and "vehicle check", for which I had a coupon.

The vehicle check indicated I needed front brake pads and that my battery was "bad". I made an appointment for the brake job (my brakes had started squeaking, so I believe I needed that work) & figured I'd just buy a battery, before winter & have one of my sons install it, rather than pay for labor.

Last week, I went to Checker Auto Parts to buy a battery. The nice young man there said their records showed 2 different sizes of batteries for my car. He asked if he could measure the battery I had in my car.

When we had the hood open, I mentioned that the battery was less than 3 years old and was a 7 year heavy-duty battery. He asked if I'd like him to test it. (I didn't realize they could do this). Of course, I said yes.

He tested the battery, with radio, a/c, etc., all off - it tested as good. He then had me turn everything on and tested - it again tested as good.

When I told him Tires Plus, in writing, stated my battery was "bad", he printed out his test results & gave me the print out. I will be taking that, along with my Tires Plus vehicle check report, that states my battery was bad & quotes $90.00 to replace. I will ask for an explanation! I plan to do this at a time their lot is full, so I can question them in front of customers.

I figure either they deliberately tried to sell me something they knew I didn't need, or the mechanic did not bother to check the battery & just noted I needed a new one.

Whatever the reason, I now cannot trust Tires Plus and I will not be doing more business with them in the future -regardless of the excuse they offer up when I question them!
