Payment on line not posted corrected

I made a payment on line, it was about 10 days late. I made the regular payment, didn't include the 6.00 late fee. When they took the money out of my account, they changed the amount I paid and added the 6.00 late fee. This could have just as easly been 2 payments due, and I guess they would have taken 2 payments out of my checking account. This makes me very distrustful, of them.
