Trying to collect on a ten year old charge off

I got a message on my phone to call them, and I did, they said I owed 2419.00 on a repo i had ten years ago. But it was charged off. I asked them to send me proof if i owe it, and then they kept of passing me around to other so called managers and none of them would agree to send me proof in writing that I owe this money. I have a journal already written out of the first call and what was said.

The first time I called them and they said that i owed the money, they asked me if i wanted to pay right then, I said no I need proof, well they said it's on your credit report, and I told them just b/c it's on there it doesn't mean I owe it. And we went round and round about it. Finally I got frustrated and I couldn't handle it anymore so I hung up on them.

I finally calmed down and called them back and told them that if they had proof send it and i will pay it and thats when the run around began, so before i hung up I told them if you want payment send signatured document that I owe or something that i owe it. I was pratically yelling! My bad though! Plus I couldn't understand what they were saying. Which made it worse.
