I own a 2002 Toyota Tacoma 4 dr truck with 10,000 miles on it. On Nov. 29th I drove my pickup approximately 35 minutes with my heater on. I noticed a smell, but I thought it was probably because I hadn't used my heater much. I returned home locked my truck up, when I returned back to it about 3 hours later, I realized it had been on fire. Their was an umbrella in the passenger floor board, the Asst.

Service Manager @Keith Pierson Toyota Mr. Jim Crane, told me I had the umbrella shoved up in the heater vent, and that this had caused the fire. I have pictures that I took before taking my vehicle to Keith Pierson for repairs. The umbrella was in the floor board area, but it was not shoved up in the vent. I feel that the heater got too hot, which caused the fire, an I feel it should have been covered under my vehicle warranty.

This man was very rude, as he acted as if I had done this intentionally. I am very upset about this fire, I am scared to take this vehicle back after they finish repairing it. I was also told by my Vehicle Insurance Co., Mercury Ins., that of the $6800, damage, $2200 of that was for repair of the wiring harness. Some of which had melted. If I do not get satisfaction from Toyota Headquarters, I will persue a law suit against this company. I want them to take responsibility for this as I am not the only person to keep the umbrella in the floor board area of their vehicle.
