Just Brakes
I wasn't ripped off, but came very close!

This is more or less just a warning to those who even consider falling for their radio commercials. Folks, don't fall for the $99.88 all four wheels brake service. This is just a great lure to get you in to purchase extra items and get stuff fixed that doesn't need to be fixed. Many, many stories here on ror.com can confirm this.

Let's go back to my first experience at a Just Brakes in Lakewood, CO, in 1998. I was just 19 at the time so I had no clue what they were all about and I think this was before they started hyping their $99.88 thing. My brakes were grinding and needed a place close to home and they were right there. Of course, since I was 19 and had very little money, I had to have my parents cover the bill and it was $400 for all four brakes to be replaced. They did come with the lifetime warranty and gave me the sheet that said so.

Let's fast forward to 2003 when the very same brakes that were replaced started grinding. Of course, I've done some growing up in that timeframe and learned what Just Brakes is all about and I figure I should try and test them to see if they will really stand behind their word. I go to the shop at 80th and Wadsworth in Arvada and tell them what's up. I showed them the lifetime warranty receipt from the other location and they do replace the brakes. Amazing they actually did, but with much hesitation! They put up a fight about it, but I got them to honor that lifetime brake warranty. However, this is the kicker, they insisted I buy a master brake cylinder because the one on the car was quote "fried". Little do they know I know something about brakes. The car was still stopping and the brake system was working. The rotors and the shoes were the ones that were fried. They wanted to charge me $650 just for the brake cylinder! First off, I didn't have that kind of money (and I wasn't about to go to the parents at this time), secondly, if the master brake cylinder really was "fried" the brake pedal wouldn't work at all or would require it to be pushed all the way to the floor.in other words, the car wouldn't have been safe to drive and would have needed to be towed to the shop. So I called them out on that and of course they don't believe me and the guy said quote "well, just don't say we didn't warn you when your entire system goes out on the freeway and you need to stop suddenly from 65 mph." Luckily, the brakes themselves were replaced again and the system had no other problems after that.

So folks, just avoid all Just Brakes locations. DO NOT fall for their $99.88 scam. It's much more worth it to go anywhere but here!
