Destroyed My Engine

Took my auto in for a simple replacement of a defect Alternator while it was there they suggested doing the 60K maintenance, which I agreed to. When I came to pick up my van the owner informed me that they had accidentally destroyed my engine. While I was not very pleased with the news, he assured me he would replace it at no cost to me, which seemed fair to me. When the replacement engine was installed he presented me a bill for $2400.00. Which he claimed was the cost of the alternator and 60K maintenance, which should have been no more then $700.00. Obviously I was paying to replace the engine.

The van never ran ok after that, I returned it three times for starter problems paying and additional 500.00 for those repairs, which he claimed were not covered under the engine replacement. He was never able to keep the check engine light off for more than one day or repair the intermittent engine miss.

I finally took to another shop where they found the timing belt was one tooth off causing the miss and that could do valve damage to the engine.

I'll never have even a lawnmower repaired there again.
