Cars & Transport

DO NOT purchase a car from A&G Auto Sales. Not only are you mistreated and bullied into buying the car; the cars don't seem to be worth anything.

On March 18, I purchased a 1994 Saab 9000 CSE from A&G Auto. That night, I drove the car home and everything seemed fine with it. When I purchased the vehicle, I informed Costas (the salesperson) that I would be driving the car to Florida the next week and that I was looking for good, reliable transportation.

Anyway, on March 20 the car had to be towed to Saab of Richmond with a broken serpentine belt and a busted power steering pressure hose. I contacted Brenda Calhoun (the dealership manager) regarding the repairs that were needed on the car and was told that I should receive an estimate for those repairs from my local saab dealership and that depending on the nature of the problem, they would contact me with a proposal for reimbursement or instructions under their warranty for those repairs.

I did as requested, and she and I worked out an agreement to have the repairs performed at Saab of Richmond at my expense, only have half of those expenses reimbursed to me as outlined in their warranty policy. At this time I informed Ms. Calhoun that other repairs were needed, but not essential and that I did not have time to have those performed. She informed me that when I had the opportunity to acquire an estimate, to do so and she and I could meet to discuss the problem and its resolve.

On March 25, I drove the car to Florida, where upon arrival, noticed that the air conditioner did not work properly. The car was taken to the nearest repair facility, where the air conditioner was charged with freon, which I discovred later, wasn't the problem. After the repair on the air conditioner, the car was again delivered to a saab dealership for a squeal in the engine, air conditioner problems, a broken information display, and a malfunctioning radio. I was advised by the service technician that the air conditioner compressor was broken, the brakes needed to be replaced, an air hose had come loose, the oil pan plug was stripped, there was a severe oil leak, and the information display bulb needed replacing.

At this time, I called A&G Auto in an attempt to contact Ms. Calhoun and was informed that she was in a meeting. I left a message for her to return my call. Needless to say, she didn't.

I did the necessary repairs to make the car driveable and declined the others at that time.

That same evening, when checking the oil to see if may still be leaking, the oil filler tube fell out of the car. Upon inspection of the tube, I noticed duck tape had been used to secure the tube. Again, the car went into to the local saab dealership to have the tube fixed.

While working on the car once again, the technician noticed that the bolts securing the engine to the transmission were missing and that in fact, the bracket used by the bolts, had been glued onto the car. I attempted to contact Ms. Calhoun once again, only to be informed that she was in a meeting and that I needed to leave a message. I did so, but was still not called back.

The next morning, I contacted A&G Auto and was finally able to speak to Ms. Calhoun. I was informed that she nor the dealership had any intention of performing any repairs to the vehicle.in addition, I was told that if I wanted a vehicle in new condition, I should have bought a new car.in the event I was unsatisfied with her solution, I was given the name and number of a gentlemen (Andy, the owner) to call. I tried several times over to no avail.

Currently, the car is still running, but has many other problems that need to be resolved. Excluding the above mentioned repairs, I have had to put nearly $1700 into repairs. I don't know what resolve I have for this issue. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau as well as the Virginia State Policy Safety Inspection Division for the sale of an improperly passed vehicle.
