Oil change-old gasket=blown engine-franchise owner could care less

We took our car in for an oil change. They didn't remove the old gasket to the oil filter, which caused our engine to seize. All power was immediately lost.

Thankfully, our son and his friend were approaching a traffic light on a side street and not on a highway at a greater speed when this happened. It makes me sick to think what could have happened to them.

The owner of the franchise lied to us about when he submitted the claim, didn't offer a rental or loaner car, never returned our phone calls, wouldn't accept liability (even after the insurance company did), no apology or anything. We even had to make numerous calls to get a refund for the oil change ($12) which had caused $3,300 of damage.

After 2 1/2 weeks (1 1/2 weeks with a rental), without our car and numerous phone calls (resulting in unanswered questions) the insurance company finally took care of the issue and fixed our car with a salvage yard engine and all expenditures reimbursed.

The franchise owner throughout this event remained unresponsive, unprofessional and lacked any concern regarding customer service or satisfaction.

Since this event, I have seen complaints about another one of the franchise owner's shops with very similar response from the owner.

I would advise anyone doing business with any of these shops to be extremely careful or to just stay away.
