Refused to reimburse for repair because they didn't "see" it first Fountain Valley California

My '99 Hyundai Sonata sedan stopped dead one day with a loud clunk. It was towed to my service station where they discovered that the frame had rotted and the axle had slipped out.

It was towed to another garage where the type of work necessary to fix this problem is done. They cut out the rotted piece, put in "virgin" steel and replaced the axle and the front tires. Cost was $1151.34. The owner told me that he has repaired at least 10 Hyundais with this problem. Also the service manager where the car was purchased is familiar with this problem. Hyundai replaces the frame when this happens and it is brought to a dealer. Multiply that throughout the country.

I wrote Hyundai a letter saying that this shouldn't have happened as the car had only 73,800 miles on it and I wanted to be reimbursed. I was called last week and told that they couldn't reimburse me because it hadn't been taken to a Hyundai dealer and they hadn't seen the rotten frame before it was repaired.

I have had cars with 150K and more and this problem has never arisen. I am fortunate that this didn't happen on the highway as I might have been killed. Imagine a car going 60 mph stopping dead.

I'm not done yet. I've contacted the dealer and asked him to advocate for me.
