AAMCO Transmissions
Destroyed my transmission and told me several lies about engine codes

Cars & Transport

I brought my car to AAMCO transmissions for a simple fluid change. I have a 2002 Audi A6 4.2 sport. I called the shop before bringing my car there to inquire if they could perform the service. I was told by the shop manager that they could do and that they had the special computers and german fluid to perform the job. I brought my car to them and left if for a day. When I picked up the car I was told it was fine. As soon as I drove away the transmission went into limp home mode and did not function well at all. I brought the car back and found that they put in 4 quarts of ATF as the computer called for. They dropped the pan and told me that the fluid change and cleaned the transmission and caused worn parts to fail. I could not prove otherwise so I had them rebuild my transmission under my extended warranty. I got my car back a week later. It ran fine for one day. I had to have the car towed back to AAMCO two days later. They agreed to fix the transmission under AAMCO warranty. This time they also gave me a rental car. When I got the car back it was not running properly. The AAMCO shop claimed to perform and engine diagnostic and came up with some engine codes. I told them not to repair the engine and to tow the car to the audi dealer for a diagnostic and repair. I paid 120 usd for the audi dealer to tell me that there were no engine codes on the car. I took the car home for two weeks with the car running fine after it left the dealer with the exception of high fuel consumption. Two weeks after leaving the dealer the transmission failed again. I brought it back to AAMCO and they claimed that it was low on fluid. The transmission was not leaking and I keep it garaged so I would have seen a leak. I left the car with them again for two days while they filled it with fluid and performed more diagnostics. I picked the car up with the manager telling me that the transmission was low on fluid and nothing else. I drove the car away and immediately notice that it was not running right. I brought the car back to AAMCO and they performed more diagnostics telling me that there were more engine codes found during diagnostics. During all of this I made a friend of a german auto repair shop owner. I took the car to him for an engine diagnostic en route to the audi dealer. We found no engine faults but did not inform the dealer or the AAMCO shop of our findings. The dealer also found no engine faults but did find that the wrong fluid was in the transmission and recommended a transmission replacement. I met with the AMMCO owner who agreed to send the car to another AAMCO shop to be repaired. After two weeks in the other AAMCO shop I got the car back. The transmission makes some whining noise when in gear and under load. I also noticed that they did not install my skid plate properly and had bent the brackets and did not install all the fasteners. I also noticed a wire hanging down from my transmission. I decided to give the car a look over for myself and also bought a fault scanner for myself. I found several air and vaccum hoses disconnected as well as broken clips and connectors. I connected the air lines and ran an engine scan (no faults). The engine now runs rough has much less power and the fuel consumption is high although there are no engine faults. The transmission shifts ok but has the whining gear noise. I called the shop but the owner informed me that his shop was closed for a four day weekend and I was out of luck until after Christmas. I brought my car back to the shop to inform the shop owner of my concerns. At this point he started to give me attitude. He put the car up on a rack and immediately saw the wire hanging. We both looked under the car and found that a clip that routes the wires had broken and a second one was on its way to breaking. He broke off the other clip and secured the wires with zip ties. He also claimed that the car was missing skid plate fasteners when he got the car and that he did not need to lift the hood for anything more than letting the engine/transmission cool faster. He did offer to install any hardware that I purchased free of charge. I told him that I expected him to order the parts and install them for me. He refused to do this. He test drove the car for a total of four blocks and claimed not the hear anything unusual about the transmission (noise) or the rough running engine. I asked him to put the car in drive while on a rack so we could listen to the transmission. He complied and put the car up on the lift then put it in drive. There was no unsual noise but he even admitted that there was no load on the drivetrain. At this point I cannot prove that they did anything adverse to the car. I can only recommend that anyone think three times before bringing their vehicle to any AAMCO.
