Sent my car out with NO oil

I took my car into Valvoline for an oil change in the summer of 2007. It looked like they completed the oil change, they waved me out of the station. While I was driving, I noticed the low oil light was on. I turned back toward the station.By the time I made it there the car was making a clacking noise. I saw much discussion around the front of my vehicle at the station.
It was only because I got out of the car to see what was going on that I realized I had been driving the car without ANY oil. They had not refilled the car with oil. They refunded me the money for the oil change. I said that would not be enough and asked for some documentation that they had sent my car out without any oil.
I then wrote a letter to the national office. Sometime after that a person from the local service station called and asked me to come in for some tests to make sure the car was alright.
Are the tests they want to do for the good of my car or to help them cover themselves?
