Ripoff - Oercharging for transmission rebuild! Ripoff

I took a 1992 Acura Legend to be diagnosed for transmission problems to an Aamco in Jacksonville, Florida. I had called prior to taking it in and talked to the owner to evaluate the problem. He assured me it was probably something electrical and would run around $50 or $100 (which I didn't believe in the first place and should have been my first clue). The automatic transmission was having a hard time shifting into second gear.

Being a woman, but somewhat familiar with transmission problems I figured this probably wasn't the case but since he was so helpful, I would give it a try. After they got hold of the car, it was a totally different story.

To make a long story short, they had to get into the transmission to evaluate it. And their estimate to repair the transmission was $3,556! I could buy a rebuilt one from Acura for $1,000 less than that!

It was $1,273 for an overhaul, plus things like a snap ring, second gear clutch, torque converter, steel plates, cellenoids-$800 and an external cooler. From what I've found out from other transmission places, all of those things should be included in the overhaul with the exception of an external cooler. The cooler can be determined if it is needed AFTER the transmission is working. They were going to put one on up front!

Needless to say, my husband got involved and we are getting the car the heck out of there! I would never — EVER recommend someone to go there for transmission work! They are the biggest rip off! And to make matters worse, after my husband got involved amazingly they could come down to around $2,000 to fix the transmission... Now, how could they do that? It just amazes me!
