Ripoff Almost Grand Theft Auto

I arrived at Pep Boys at 7:55 AM Saturday, June 23 because they open at 8:00 AM. I was assured I was first in line by a parts person and at 8:35 AM, Juan the Service Writer showed up. It only took just under an hour to place my Service Request for an oil change, tire rotate and a coolant flush.

I pick up the car at noon, pay the $130.00 charge (ripoff), drive 3 blocks home and park it in my garage. At 8:00 PM that night, I go out to start the car and notice I am missing a wheel cover. Not a big deal except this is a Jaguar Vandem Plas cover that costs $425.00. I drive less than 10 miles and for the first time since I have owned the car, the "Coolant Low" warning light comes on.

I arrived at Pep Boys at 8:55 AM Sunday, June 24 because they open at 9:00 AM. At 9:45 AM, afer waiting almost another hour, I explained my probelms to Brian the Service Writer. He says I should have been told they do not do coolant flushes on Jags or Mercedes.

He then takes my copy of the Work Order, matches it up with the store copy from a large stack of yesterday's work orders, goes in back to 'look' for my wheel cover, and comes back with a miraculous discovery. Written in pen, not printed like the rest of the document, is a sentence that now says "Right front wheel cover missing when car arrived". They either damaged or stole my wheel cover and now are trying to defraud me out of the $425.000 cost of replacing it.

As to the 'Low Coolant' warning light, Brian says he has no mechanics, just tire changers to address today's advertised tire ripoff offer, and I would need to come back on Monday, June 25.

While waiting in line, I discover half of the people are there to get their shoddy work rectified. All were told to come back Monday after getting jerked around for the entire weekend Their 'mechanics' work on commission which is why they show up when they want to, do not know what they are doing and why Pep Boys will not stand behind their work.

A word to the wise, you would be better off walking or using mass transit while your car is being worked on by reputable, honest repair places like. At least you will still have all or your wheel covers and they will stand behind their work.
