Was Told I need $800 in repairs, I needed a new oil filter ripoff

What a scam they are running! All Tune & Lube 5900 Park Blvd. Pinellas Park FL 33781. I took my car there yesterday, after noticing smoke (oil) I was due for an oil change. I asked the manager (Patrick) to change the oil, and check for the leak. I waited for an appt. 1 hr. Then was lead into the garage, so that he could show me that the whole underside of the car was wet with oil.

OK I knew that just tell me where it is coming from. Patrick tells me to have a seat while they finish there "inspection". 5 minutes later he takes me out to the car again, this time he tells me the leak is from the oil pan gasket, the front main seal, the rear main seal, and the valve cover gaskets. I look at him like hes smoking something, and reply how the hell could they have all started to leak at once. He proceeds to tell me that they probably have been leaking a while, and that it just got worse.

Then his lead mechanic the one that he was explaining to another customer was a Master certified ASE tech, tells him we should start the car, that much oil loss will be pretty apparent as to where its coming from. Hes says no bother. Whatever, I tell him to quote me a price to fix it, he agrees then tells me its not worth it to change the oil, as it will just leak out. I'll just top it off and charge you only 9.99 for just the oil.

Ok i agree. Go back inside wait for the car to finish, he writes up my estimate for a starting at price of $699.00. Which is not bad for all the work he told me was necessary. I take the car home, borrow some jack stands and a jack, get the car up so i can crawl underneath it. Start the car look under neath and a nice stream of oil is pouring out. I get underneath the car, look for the leak, and find it immediately, coming from the oil filter! Apparently the seam let go, and was leaking like nobodys business. All i needed was a new $4 dollar filter and problem solved.
