Fraudulent charges after GAP insurance paid

My husband totalled his car in June. We had full coverage insurance with GAP insurance coverage that was filed. My agent told us that we would not have to pay anything else. The car loan was through Key Bank in KY.

Then approximately 3 months later in Sept we got notified by Capital One. At first we were trying to obtain a loan for a new car and thought it was about that since the messages were just noted from Capital ONe auto finance wishing to speak with my husband. We finally spoke with them.

They claimed they had bought the loan from Keybank (which we were never notified) and that the car was not completely paid off. WE spoke with numerous agents and lawyers with Citibank and they always had a different story. Loans not paid on time and such. The car was not behind and indeed was paid up to date when the car was totalled. They continue to harass us and his ex wife for some crazy amt.

The beginning amt was 1650 that they claimed was left unpaid. However one lawyer spoke with the GAP insurance claims and was told it was paid. Now the total they claim we owe is really hard to figure out. The total amt due says 6488.00 and then account balance states 1798.15.

I would like someone to help resolve this. We have all of the origianl papers and such and filed everything with the GAP insurance twice ourselves and never could get a statement from the agent but the insurance states it was filed.
