Vehicle sales Rippoff

I purchased a vehicle from Jay, planning to drive it back to Wisconsin. He told me he wouldn't hesitate to drive it to Canada. My son and I made it from Austin Texas to Kansas before one of the valves in the engine went through one of the pistons. I called him when it failed, on the Kansas tollroad to tell him what happened, he said to call a mechanic. I rented a car to get home. Rented a car dolly went back and pulled it home. When I got back I emailed Jay and asked for a partial refund to cover some portion of my expense and some portion of repairs.
He emailed back with this response.
"I did not do anything wrong and have no assistance for you"
