Ripoff extremely over charged for parts on my vehicle

I took my 1963 ford ranchero into Dave's because it had a charging problem. Dave looked it over and told me that i needed a new voltage regulator. He said it would cost $80.00 for the part and final cost would be $155.00. When he gave me the bill it was a total of $172.52. I gave him $170.00 and told him i would send him the balance of $2.52. The following day, out of curiosity, i called Schucks Auto parts and they quoted me a price of $29.99 for the voltage regulator. I called Dave and ask why i was charged so much for the part. The lady that answered at first said, "I don't know", then with a long hesitation she said just a minute, i then told her about the call to schucks that i made and she told me that they don't get their parts from Schuck's. I asked where they got their parts from and she told me from Parts Plus.

So I call Parts plus and they quoted me a price of $41.00. I then called Dave's once again and told her of the price difference and she just said "I don't know, business markup i guess." They charged me $78.94 for the same regulator that they purchaced for $41.00. They over charged me $27.94, Then charged me $75.00 for labor. What a rip-off. I called other shops and they quoted me a price of $140.00 for parts and labor. I guess i should of called around ahead of time. I have done business with Dave's before and thought that he was an hones person. But I will never go there again and I suggest that you don't either.
