The Ol' Bait & Switch is alive and well at Cherokee Ford Ripoff

Cars & Transport

My wife and I went to Cherokee Ford on Saturday January 13th of 2007 to look at the possibility of purchasing a new car. We had just recently been married, and joined families. Now we live in a household with 6 children, so her Ford Taurus and my Ford Explorer just weren't doing the trick. We were interested in a 2006 or 2007 Expedition.

My wife had purchased her 04 Taurus at this dealership in June of 04, a new car purchase, had been financed through Ford Motor Credit, and had never been late with a payment. When we got married, we decided she would quit her job and stay home to take care of the kids and such, as my salary is more than sufficient to pay our bills and save for college for kids and what not. We had been making payments on her Taurus without fail even after she left her job. Anyway, I am getting ahead of myself... Long story short, we found a Certified Used 06 Expedition for a list price of $21,900, which was even below the Kelly Blue Book for it. We drove it, loved it, and wantd to buy it.

We filled out our credit application, and began the process of financing and all. We had some negative equity in the Taurus, as we expected, so we agreed to put more money down than we had been planning to. We had offered $2,200 down, they asked for more, we agreed to pay $3,000 down. The monthly note was more than we wanted, but acceptable, so we agreed to all the terms. We wait for the finance manager to be ready for us, and went in to sign all of the paperwork. We signed, gave them our down payment, swapped keys and left with our new vehicle.

As I mentioned, this was Saturday, January 13th. On the evening of Tuesday January 16th, the dealership called and said they were having trouble getting teh finanacing approved, and asked if we could come up with more money toward the down payment. I asked how much, expecting 500 or 1000, they said they needed and ADDITIONAL $5,000!!! I was amazed. I told them they were on crack, and they said they would "try to work it out". The next call was about the same time of night the next night, and their "solution" was to offer us a different vehicle, smaller, withless equipment, but which qualified for a rebate, which woul cover the down payment increase they wanted. I accussed them of bait and switch, and took the Expedition back and demanded return of my down payment and trade in vehicle.
