Deceptive Sales Practices ripoff

Went and test drove a vehicle and was considering a purchase. I found oil leak and was told that local auto repair shop would advise on type and seriousness of oil leak. I was told that the oil leak was not serious and that if I purchased the car I would receive a full refund if it was other than a minor problem. When I returned to the dealer later in the day the salesman (Jason) assured me that the problem was a leaking oil drain plug.

When I told him I would purchase the vehicle contingent upon the dealer fixing the oil leak he said "We won't fix the leak, but we will give you a new oil plug and a free oil change." After continuing negotiations, I told him that I would purchase the vehicle contingent upon the repair costing less than $300 and that if the cost was greater than that I could return the vehicle for a full refund. He said that if I bought the vehicle I could apply the purchase amount toward another vehicle on their lot. I reminded him of our earlier conversation regaring a full refund but he refused to acknowlege our earler conversation. Fortunately we walked away from this dealership ASAP before we had a chance to be ripped off.

If indeed it was a minor repair as the salesman had assured us over and over, it seems that they should have either repaired it or agreed to the refund contingency. I suspect that the repair was probably much more serious than a drain plug, but he wanted us to assume the risk of the repair based on their "Assurances" that it was minor without any risk or guarantee on their part. Talk about not standing behind what you say!

I would be very wary of this dealership and their sales tactics. They told me one thing, but when it comes to putting their assurances in writing, or backing up what they say LOOK OUT!
