Cars & Transport

BEWARE, this company sells their so called "rebuilt" transmissions thru auto parts stores nationwide and operate retail auto repair facilities as well under the name of Authorized Transmissions.

In April of I took my car to the retail repair shop of Accurate Transmission (d.B.A. Authorized Transmission) for a thumping noise that occurred when I took my foot off the accelerator and when I coasted to a stop. The reason I took my car to this shop was because they had replaced my transmission on Oct. 19 and it was still under warranty.

I told the manager (Robert) there that I felt it was transmission related. But without taking a test drive himself, he told me it was a motor mount. I paid $181.64 on 4-25-06.

I immediately noticed the same thumping noise problem and went back. Again, without taking a test drive himself, Robert assured me it was a transmission mount now. I asked him if the mounts were in such bad shape, why he did not see that when he first worked on the car? No one there had an answer for me and the old parts were NOT returned to me.

After another round of guess work and another $108.65, the thumping problem was still there. This time, I went back and told Robert that others have told me it was definitely transmission related. Downshifting problems and bands slapping were what others told me.

Finally, Accurate (Authorized Transmission) agreed to replace the transmission with another of their so called "expertly rebuilt" units. However, they refused to refund my $290.29 ($181.64 and $108.65) for two rounds of unnecessary repairs that had nothing to do with the thumping noise.

Though the rebulit trans they finally put in my car is better, it is still not what it should be. I guess I will have to live with that. Refunding my $290.29 is the best I can hope for now. Their reasoning is that the mounts were old. Well, my tires are not new either but replacing them would not have solved the thumping noise. OTHER INFO: My car is an older model (1990 Buick Lasabre) but in near perfect condition... It is NOT a junker.

The manager was Robert. There was a guy named Jason too who was suppose to be the GM but was always on the phone. I have sent letters to their president (Scott Greenberg) as well as the CEO/Owner (Rich Kuempel) within the last 3 months but no refunds or even a response yet.

As I told them in my letters, it is rather small of a large company like them to make money off of consumers for unnecessary repairs, especially with the way their manager (Robert) analyzed the problem. Please note that I had originally paid their company $1,134 for the rebuilt trans on October 19.

All I asked was a proper diagnosis of the thumping noise.instead, I paid for guesswork. Accurate Transmission (847-549-8100) is located at 401 Terrace Drive, Mundelein, IL 60060.
