Ripoff dishonest wrongful charges

We took our car to be fixed because it was making a loud rattling sound and cutting off when letting off the gas.
The mechanic was made aware of this. He called and gave us a cost of 232.00. I go to pick it up and half way down the road it cuts off on me. He was called when i finally made it home and denied that we told him car was cutting off. He only heard the part about the noise. Who wants to pay 232 to stop a noise especially if the car won't start!
