If you live in Hobbs, N.M. Or the surrounding area and want to purchase a new or used car, do yourself a favor and make the 100 mile or so trip to Lubbock or Odessa, Texas. This dealership will put you over a barrel with their sales tactics because if you want a better deal then they know that you'll have to make the trip in order to get that better deal. Here are just a few of the assinine tactics that they use:

1. Will lowball the hell out of your tradein. I had two vehicles that according to Kelly Blue book (from their web site) were worth approximately $17,500 to $19,000 depending upon the condition that I was willing to trade. They offered $12,000 for both and said that there was little or no room for negotiation.

2. Will make false statements regarding your credit report thinking that you aren't intelligent enough to check your own credit report. This is an attempt to have you pay a higher interest rate. I'm sure there is some kind of kickback from the lending institution to the dealership if they are successfull in getting a unsuspecting individual to sign on the dotted line at a higher rate of interest.

3. They will tell you that they will be able to get you financed for an agreed upon price then they come back and tell you that if you want to purchase their vehicle you will have to come up with additional monies because the lending institution will only finance part of the purchase price. Example - final price negotiated (if you want to call it that) was just over $31,000. They told me that because credit was marginal (which it isn't because I checked and proved it to them) and the amount of cash that I was willing to put down the lending institution would only finance approximately $29,000. And that if I wanted to buy their car then I would have to come up with the additional cash.

4. Their sales reps do not return phone calls. You have to follow up on making repeated phone calls to the dealership only to learn that the sales rep is with a prospective customer, out to lunch, etc. When you do leave a message and question the rep if he ever received the message he denies getting your message.

Do yourself a favor and make the 100 mile trip. I made a few
phone calls and explained what was going on and the position that I was willing to take and they were more than willing to talk to me.in fact they guaranteed me that they would beat the so called "deal" that I was getting in Hobbs. The personnel at the dealerships in Lubbock and Odessa claim that they get several new customers, and repeat customers, every week because of the sales tactics that are used by all of the new car dealerships in Hobbs.
